Steps Taken by A Professional Hair Transplant Surgeon for Hair Regrowth

Hair transplant is the latest trend followed by people. It works not only for those with baldness but even for those who want to change their hairline or adopt a new attractive mane. But the question arises: Is it safe and successful? Is it a long-term process? Does this procedure make tissue changes in the body? How to find a professional hair transplant surgeon? And many more.

Popular Ways of Hair Transplant Surgery

In this procedure, a hair transplant surgeon takes hair follicles from any site in the body and then implants them on the hairless portion. That hair transplant surgery, however, can be done in two ways. Let’s see them one by one in detail:

  1. Strip Harvesting

During this process, skin strips with good hair growth are taken from the patient’s own body. They are then planted in balding areas.

  1. Follicular unit extraction (FUE)

During this process, hair clusters with their roots are manually removed by a professional hair transplant surgeon. They are then planted at the hairless site.

Which of these is better?

Currently, the most common type of surgery nowadays is Strip Harvesting. This surgery leaves only a small scar on the donor site. It also shows recovery within two weeks. On the other hand, FUE is a manual procedure that can be done in a single or several settings. It is a time taking process, but it gives incredible results. No scars are left behind after this surgery. However, it is time-consuming for the hair transplant surgeon and the patient. It is also not cost-effective. But nowadays, with robotics, the time has been reduced, and the process is simplified immensely. So, both are best in their own ways.

Steps For a Hair Transplant Surgery

  1. Preparation for the hair transplant

In the first step of the hair transplant surgery, hair follicles are removed from the back of the head and planted into the balding area.

  1. Donor area trimmed

The hair in the donor area is trimmed before the surgery starts.

  1. The donor area is prepared for surgery

When the hair in the donor area is trimmed, it is given local anesthesia by the hair transplant surgeon.

  1. The donor area is sutured and tissues in that site are removed

The donor area is sutured by surgically removing the tissue in the donor area that contains the bald-resistant hair follicles.

  1. Combed hair over the sutured donor area

The sutures in the donor area are hidden with the help of the patient’s hair. The patient’s hairs are then combed over them. Once the procedure is completed, these sutures are later removed almost ten days after the hair transplant surgery.

  1.  Donor tissue trimmed into follicular unit grafts

Surgical technicians nowadays use microscopes to view the donor tissue for dissecting and preparing follicular units hair grafts.

  1. Bald recipient area prepared

The balding recipient area is then prepared for the surgical process once the local anesthesia is given to the patient. (At this stage, no trimming/removal of hair is required at the top of the recipient area.)

  1.  Incisions made in the balding areas

Follicular Unit Grafts are then placed in the tiny incisions made by the hair transplant surgeon in an irregular pattern in the recipient area.

  1. Grafts placement

In front of the hairline, the smallest grafts (one and two) are placed according to hair densities. And primarily, three and four (denser than one and two) are placed behind.

  1. Closing of the Hair Transplant Surgery

The incision marks heal naturally. And the redness and swelling in the recipient disappear within a week.

Recuperation time

A hair transplant is a non-invasive procedure. A reliable hair transplant surgeon can do it on an outpatient basis. Most patients are allowed to shampoo after two-three days of the procedure. The patient’s scalp needs to be protected from sun and infections for some time after the surgery. Sometimes, the patient is also given antibiotics for a few days for maximum protection.
